The Retail Trades Committee encourages local Charitable Organizations to participate in the 2012 Holiday Promotion. The Chamber will donate $1500 to Charitable Organizations (from an approved charity list) that have been selected by the community.

The eligibility requirements to be listed on the approved charity list are as follows:

Reside within Custer County, OK; Be a 501(c)3 organization; Submit registration form by the deadline of June 29

OKcommerce.gov Launches New Wind Section for Site Selection Consultants and Community ED Professionals

Considering the state’s generation capacity, location, available workforce, and competitive business costs, Oklahoma is the ideal location for wind generation, tower and blade production, turbine component manufacturing, repair and maintenance operations, and industry R&D.

To help site selection consultants quickly access the information they need about Oklahoma’s emerging wind energy industry and help community economic developers land generation and wind-component manufacturing facilities, OKcommerce.gov recently launched a new section called Oklahoma is Wind Energy.

You’ll find the following:

Capacity maps and details on Oklahoma’s prime areas for wind development;
Transmission development updates;
Information on Oklahoma’s project-ready certified sites;
Cost of doing business rankings;
Incentive details, including a sample incentive package for wind-component manufacturers;
Available workforce and training information;
Maps and information on Oklahoma’s transportation modes—waterways, highways, airports, and railways; and,
Details on Oklahoma’s research and development facilities.

Other features planned for Oklahoma is Wind Energy include property spotlights, case studies, and freight provider and wind-component supplier directories.

Heartland Museum KFOR Video

The Heartland Museum was the recent feature of Oklahoma City’s KFOR "Great State" program. Gaylon Culver, the show’s producer, decided to stop by the museum on his way back from Elk City. What started out as a 15 minute "look see" visit turned into an hour and a half visit. During the visit Culver visited with the museum staff and shot footage of the museum and its volunteers. In the weeks since the video first aired, Jim Lovell, director of the Heartland Museum, reports attendance has increased. "We have visitors regularly tell us they came to see the museum because of the KFOR program," states Lovell. "What a wonderful opportunity for the Heartland Museum," states Marie Hanza, Executive Director of the Weatherford Area Chamber of Commerce. "This type of publicity is invaluable for both the museum and Weatherford. The Chamber plans to use this video when working with tour groups and the individual travelers," she continued.

Weatherford’s tourism commercial is already beginning to pay dividends and it has even aired. Inflamed Brain Creative was hired to handle the production of the commercial, which is in its final editing. Melana Lott, owner of the Inflamed Brain Creative, wrote an article about the Stafford Air & Space Museum and the Heartland Museum, and submitted it to various newspapers for publication. The first to run the story is the "Oklahoma Gazette." To read the article, click here. "We’re very excited to have an article about Weatherford’s museums in the news," states Marie Hanza, Executive Director of the Weatherford Area Chamber of Commerce. "This type of publicity goes a long way in promoting Weatherford’s travel and tourism opportunities," she concluded.
